The Flickerbox gang geared up for the 1st Annual “Flickerbox at the Ball Park” on Thursday, September 20th to watch the NL West-leading (now CHAMPS) San Francisco Giants take on the Colorado Rockies! All Flickerbox folks were required (by law!) to represent their San Francisco Giants by wearing either official Giants gear or, at the very least, something orange. Big shout out to the USPS for making sure our glittery Giants hats arrived within minutes of the big game!
In typical Flickerbox fashion, we kicked off the day’s festivities with a quick pick up game of hacky in front of AT&T Park.
It didn’t take long to find our seats (more importantly, the Anchor Brewing tent) and post up in preparation for the domination that would be the Giants squashing the Rockies. Somewhere in-between the entire outfield chanting “Colvin is a bum”, multiple beer runs, dancing to Gangnam Style, a few sheboygans, and a margarita or two, the Giants managed to put up 9 runs on the Rockies including back to back home runs.
It couldn’t have been a more perfect day (or a more perfect game) for the Flickerbox family to get together and enjoy some good baseball, good eats and most importantly… good company!

As you may or may not know, Flickerbox hosts a quarterly Movie Night where we select a newly-released movie and take a group field trip to catch the flick. We “pre-game” at Flickerbox HQ by watching a movie that is somehow related (prequel, same director, similar theme) to get us all in the spirit. Oh, AND to eat pizza and drink beer (yes, we do get work done over here).
When the Prometheus trailer showed up (and went totally viral) it was obvious that we had found the inspiration for our next movie night. And once we picked Prometheus, it was a no brainer as to which movie we would watch beforehand – the original Alien (huge score for all the sci-fi lovers in this office)!
After pushing-dragging-pulling all our comfy office furniture into The Good conference room, blacking out the windows, ordering 5 extra large pizzas from Goat Hill and stocking the fridge with beer, the stage was set for a perfect sci-fi movie screening! Most of us hadn’t seen Alien in eons (and some of the young-uns, never). Our Alien screening went off without a hitch, including the appropriate amount of Jaime screeching and insisting on holding hands with Jeff, Teanne completely passing out, and Aretoula hiding behind her hoody, covering her face.
Cut to the movie theater where 17 of us are gathered in 3 rows of seats and obnoxiously passing around boxes of assorted candies and cookies we smuggled in (my apologies to anyone who had the misfortune of sitting near us). I don’t want to spoil the movie for any of you lucky enough to have not seen it, so I’ll skip the details and go straight to saying that we all walked out of the theater wondering WHAT exactly had just happened to us. There was a general consensus that it wasn’t the worst movie we had seen, but it definitely did NOT live up to the hype. There’s been a lot of speculation about a Prometheus sequel (since the lady doctor flew off with Michael Fassbender’s robot head in tow to go find her answers). I’m not sure that I’ll be waiting in line to see that, but another Flickerbox movie night doesn’t sound half bad!

Imagine…. you’re sitting in our world famous “The Good” conference room discussing your website redesign project, Star Wars, the best local taco truck, the size of the universe, or anything really, and our Executive Producer walks over to the seemingly plain white wall and begins DRAWING ALL OVER IT with a dry erase marker. Welcome to Flickerbox people!
We are proud (and super stoked!) to announce the newest addition to our main conference room – our transparent whiteboard wall! We can now make all kinds of notes, specs, flow-charts, doodles, math equations, recipes, self portraits….. RIGHT ON THE WALL!
The innovative folks over at IdeaPaint have invented a clear paint that you can apply to a wall, then write all over, and simply wipe away when you’re done! It’s a giant, wall-sized whiteboard! Not only does this satisfy all of our childhood impulses to draw on things that we shouldn’t, but it’s also going to come in handy when we need space to collaborate, interact and fully explore our creativity. We are all about going green over here at Flickerbox, so PAPER BE GONE!!

And behold! These are the names of our newly-christened conference rooms.
With the promising prize of a $50 itunes card looming, we all got to work coming up with creative (or terrible) names for the three conference rooms in our new office. The judges? The CEO and Executive Producer. The competitors? Everyone else. From eleven people came eighty-nine entries, not all of them noteworthy (i.e. “A, B, C” and “1, 2, 3″). Quite a few people chose the strategy of unloading as many names as possible in order to win the contest.
The names that poured in ranged from ingredients in a sandwich to music references to Star Wars characters, but in the end, there could only be one (or three).
Below are the runner-ups and honorable mentions! Do you agree with the judges’ choices?
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly – Ben U.
Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato (Avocado for the lounge) – Jeff B.
Blanco, Reposado, Anejo – Ben B.
Aretoula’s Choice: O., M., G. – Ben B.
Paul’s Choice: Green, Black, Oolong – Jeff B.
Aretoula’s Choice: Ice, Ice, Baby – Jeff B.
Paul’s Choice: Censored!, Piss!, Censored! – Eric C.
Of the 89 submissions, the judges chose almost the same number of viable candidates in the first pass. 10 for Paul versus 11 for Aretoula. 6 of these choices matched and 2 of their top 3 matched. Crazy!
Can’t wait for Todd and Jeff to come up with our nifty room signs! (Or are we looking at those right now?)

Hear ye, hear ye! We mark the start of this month with the glorious unveiling of the new Zuora website, carefully adorned in gorgeous shades of lemon and lime. Not only is Zuora bringing sexy back to subscription economy thanks to their newly redesigned site, but they are also bringing the gift of subscription economy to Flickerbox in the form of a gift membership to the Microbrewed Beer of the Month Club.
As the email we received proclaims, “In each shipment you will receive twelve, 12-oz. microbrewed beers showcasing four different beer styles [three bottles of each style]. And you will learn how each beer is made, what to look for when you taste each beer, and much more by reading our accompanying monthly newsletter!”
Now that is truly a gift Flickerbox can appreciate, as beer is up on the list with coffee for being one of Flickerbox’s (few) weaknesses. We are already eagerly awaiting our first shipment, due to arrive at the end of the month (so far in the future).
Many thanks to Megan and Kyle at Zuora!

It was a typical Friday afternoon here at the Flickerbox headquarters. Some obscure music was blaring overhead as busy fingers clicked and typed away. As the clock hit 4:20PM it was as if an invisible alarm had gone off- as one gaggle, the designers and developers headed for their daily 4:20PM exercise: hacking.
Please note, that this hacking does not involve computers or illegal activities or evil looking men sitting in the dark cackling maniacally. Rather, the hacking I’m referring to is the activity of foot-bagging. Remember back in your younger years when it was cool to just stand in a circle and kick a sand-filled sack around? Well kids, Flickerbox is bringing it back one footbag (sack) at a time. Of course, this pastime doesn’t come without dangers. Dangers of kicking it so hard that it goes into your neighbors upper-level windowsill or the roof, dangers of kicking someone in the face (on accident or not), and dangers or the bag just splitting at the seams (we may or may not be speaking from personal experience).
One of the more frequent and time-consuming dangers is kicking it to somewhere out of reach. In this case, someone- who shall not be named- kicked the newest member of our footbag collection onto the roof. Luckily (or unluckily), it happened to land right on the edge of the roof. So the boys dug out their handy-dandy reaching stick for some reaching action; except this time they took it one step further and added a hook (read: paperclip attached with tape) onto it so that they could hook the stranded footbag back to safety (did I mention that we have a group of creative, intelligent people here?!). It was sheer genius.
So now you must be wondering… how did it go? Was the rescue mission successful? Did we wreck the roof in the process?
Check out the photos below and see for yourself!

Few things rouse the Flickerbox crew as much as the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee. So on this chilly, dreary Monday, the Garfield-like personas of the office melted away at an unexpected surprise from Jill Druschke at Panache:
Black Cat from Intelligentsia Coffee. The beans were caressed in sleek and sexy packaging. The bag’s red and black dressing gave off a mysterious allure, and the novelty of the whole packaging had the office coffee lovers crowded in the kitchen waiting for a cup. Anticipation was at an all-time high as the grinder churned out what appeared to be pure gold (suspiciously to the tune of “Eye of the Tiger”).
The aroma had the guys swooning, a sip had them giddier than a school girl hearing her crush say her name, a mugful had the whole office humming like a factory that had found its perfect rhythm. In conclusion, we just wanted to send a huge Thank You! to Jill for a thoughtful gift that could be the key to perfect office harmony.

December is a month of appreciation for us here at Flickerbox. In particular, there are two clusters of people we especially appreciate (excluding family):
• Our employees whom we celebrated during our annual holiday party.
• Our clients, particularly those who modeled, with whom we shared the gift of Kühl jackets and Aperture beanies rather than fruitcakes (so last decade) this year.
Below we share some of outstanding beauty shots of our clients modeling their favorite holiday gifts.
Happy holidays and merry new year, everyone!

Check out our new Abominable Chrome theme up on the Google Chrome APP store. We have taken our winter mascot and given him his own little home on the web. Since we have a lot of iMacs in the office we gave him a max background image size of 2560×1440 to go full screen if needed.
